PRE-RACE CONSIDERATIONS

  • Racers must pass the preliminary ramp-brake test. If the racer DOES NOT show competence or the physical ability to complete this test “they” will not race in their own, individual car. There will, however, be an opportunity for smaller children (ages 7 to 9) to race in the SUPERKIDS CAR. This car is specifically designed and built to accommodate two children. To ensure the safety of the children, specially trained “co-pilots” will be available to help the racers in this category.
  • Registration forms must be filled out and signed by a parent or guardian
  • Race Volunteers reserve the right to remove a racer from the race at any time due to safety concerns

Categories

  • Participants compete by driving gravity-powered cars in one of five Categories.

Category 1: Corporate “Stock Cars” Demonstration Races

Big_Slick_1s

  • With the help of local businesses and sponsors, the Kinsmen Club of Vulcan has purchased 10 Stock Division Cars.
  • The Stock division is for girls and boys age 7 to 13 years old.
  • Stock cars can accommodate a racer up to (approximately) 160 cm (5' 3") tall and 57 kg (125 pounds).
  • Drivers MUST be able to apply the brake pedal with enough force to bring the car to a complete stop! NO EXCEPTIONS REGARDLESS OF AGE - IF YOU CAN'T STOP THE CAR THEN YOU CAN'T DRIVE ONE!

Category 2: Corporate "Masters Division Car" Demonstration Races

Masterscar

  • The Masters division is for racers 12-18 years old and can meet the Pre-Race Considerations mention above.
  • Masters cars can accommodate a child up to (approximately) 6'0" tall and 160 pounds.
  • The car weighs approximately 88 lbs. put together with Z-Glas® wheels.
  • The combined weight of the assembled car and the driver shall not exceed 255 pounds including the Z-Glas® wheels.

Category 3: Engineered Car Division

HomeEngineered9

  • A race for "scratch-built" cars, not based on any pre-made kits, powered only by gravity.
  • This category is open to any girl or boy ages 7 to 77 years on race day.
  • Total weight of car and driver cannot exceed 350 pounds. The driver must sit in the car, facing forward and control the car using only their hands and feet.
  • The Engineered Car Division will be based off different rules and requirements than those of the AASBDA. The reason for the modification of the rules is to allow for more creative and mechanical ideas to be implemented in the designing and construction of the soap box car.
  • In this division, you can use your imagination and creativity to design and build a gravity powered soap box car within specific height and weight requirements.
  • Only gravity powered cars are eligible. The organizers frown on using alternative propulsion sources such as mules, dogs, or hamsters. The Kinsmen Club of Vulcan specifically prohibits the use of nuclear fission and flux capacitors to power cars in this division!

  • The cars are specifically designed and built to accommodate two children.
  • To ensure the safety of the children, specially trained “co-pilots” will be available to help the racers in this category.
